You must not only acknowledge this and fight him off, you must also comdemn with reason and thought those who support him. You must realise that it is not possible to overcome the enemies of the city before you have punished the men who serve him in the city itself. This you will never be able to do, by Zeus and the other gods, but are so stupid and paranoid or… I can't say.
